We're excited for Right to Read week which will be next week! Our theme this is year is "Reading is Sunsational!" All of the week's activities will be centered around fun in the sun! On Monday students may preview the book fair. Those wishing to make a purchase may do so on Tuesday. There are other exciting activities planned throughout the week. Thanks to Mrs. Koontz for her planning of Right to Read Week and the teachers for decorating and making it a special week for us.
Sports this week
Our volleyball team begins their tournament next week. We have not received the bracket, so we will announce the game times next week. Our basketball team has two more regular season games. One is Monday at home, and the other is Tuesday at St. Mike's. The 7/8 football players have a game on Wednesday.
Fall/Winter Uniform changes
Beginning Monday November 4, uniform pants and/or skirts must be worn. A few things to remember: Girls' navy and khaki skorts are permitted during short season only. In the winter months, only plaid skirts and jumpers are permitted. Uniform slacks may be worn in either navy blue or khaki. Please make sure that tops are either light blue or white. Navy blue tops for either boys or girls are not permitted. Also, please remember that high top tennis shoes are not permitted and that knee socks and crew socks are required for the winter months. If you are in need of uniform pants, skirts, jumpers, or tops, please check the uniform "closet" in the multi-purpose room before you make any purchases. There are many items available.
Soup and Salad Luncheon
Thanks so much for your great response to our request for help for the Soup/Salad Luncheon on November 17. We've heard from about 40% of our families so far. We would love for every family to at least make one contribution for this event. There are many ways to help with this event. We already have several salads, so we're looking for more soups to be donated. You could send in an item for the basket raffle, purchase or sell luncheon, 50/50, or basket raffle tickets. You could work the day of the event. Your child can earn one dress down day certificate for every way that you participate. Up to ten dress down day certificates can be earned depending on how many tickets are sold. Tuition credit is also given for any kind of participation.
Items for Veterans
This will be the last week to bring in toiletry items for veterans in our local nursing homes. We hope everyone can make a donation of at least one item. Suggested items from the Ohio River Valley Elks are aftershave, shaving cream, razors, toothpaste, lotion, shampoo, soap, nail clippers and files, small packs of tissues, word find and puzzle books, or cash so items can be purchased. The Ohio River Valley Elks will be picking up the items to distribute to the nursing homes on Monday, October 28. Let's show our support for our veterans by helping with this important project.
